It was just too much good pitching and hard hitting by the Longhorns. The GW boys who had already beaten Mathis in their first round game silenced the Beeville bats in the top of the first inning and then struck for six big runs in the home half.
Longhorn hurler Ryan Thomasee blanked the Beeville squad again in the top of the second. The GW bats rallied for another six runs in the bottom of the second to take a 12-0 lead.
The Beeville bats caught up to the GW fireballer a little in the third as Isaiah Thomas led off with a single to right field. A walk to Jaydon Burkett followed to put two runners on for Lazzaro Garcia. Garcia came through with a double that knocked in one runner, but Burkett was out at the plate on the play, trying to score on the Garcia hit. Garcia went to third on the throw home to help keep the Beeville threat alive.
A new GW pitcher came on and got into a little trouble by walking Devin Smith and Hunter Pelitire in succession. A wild throw to third to try and pick off Garcia sailed wide, allowing Garcia to score. Smith moved all the way around and scored on another bad GW throw to put the final run of the inning on the scoreboard for Beeville.
It was a 12-3 game heading into the bottom of the third. The Longhorns worked for the one run needed to earn the 10-run rule win. A leadoff walk, a fielder’s choice and a couple of passed balls brought the Longhorn run across the plate.
The Beeville boys had one last chance to prolong the game but needed to score at least one run in the top of the fourth. It was not to be as the three Beeville hitters went down on order and the young Longhorns celebrated the win to advance in the winners’ bracket of the tournament.
The Beeville boys will play on Tuesday evening in the double elimination tournament.
