GISD to take Head Start applications

Goliad ISD will accept applications for its 2013-14 Head Start program Monday, July 29 through Wednesday, July 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day at the Head Start office.

Children ages 3 or 4 years old by Sept. 1, are eligible for the GISD Head Start/pre-k programs.

Applications are also available online at the GISD website.

Children ages 3 or 4 may be eligible using the following criteria for Head Start:

• economically disadvantaged (poverty guidelines)

• disability (must provide documents)

• in foster care (must provide documents)

• homeless

• receiving public assistance (must provide documents)

Children 4 years of age may be eligible using the following criteria for


• economically disadvantaged (free and reduced lunch program guidelines)

• homeless

• unable to speak and comprehend the English language (will require testing)

• foster or foster adopted children (must provide documents)

• children with parent on active military duty, in an activated reserve unit, or has a parent who was wounded or killed in action (must provide documents)

To complete an application, bring the following:

• proof of income (W-2 or 1040 and most recent pay stub)

• child’s birth certificate

• immunization records

• Social Security number

• proof of residency (light, cable or water bill, lease agreement)
