Special to The Progress

Fifteen dancers from Dance By Jeannie recently returned from a Marching Auxiliaries Summer Dance Camp. The camp was held at the Omni Hotel in San Antonio and had over 500 participants from all over Texas and surrounding states. As host to thousands of students each year, Marching Auxiliaries awards organizations and individual participants at its camps around the nation.

The dancers who attended were, Bella Chapa, Gabie Martinez, Cassidy Shields, Samantha Valdez, Sarah Miller, Tanya Valdez, Krislyn Beckett, Faith Dobbs, Sarah Martinez, Ashlyn Dobson, Kayten Snider, Erynn Studlar, Megan Redding, Makaylah Davis and Taylor Terry and they were awarded many awards. The group, who consisted of dancers from ages nine to 17, worked extremely hard at learning many different dances and techniques during the time they were there. These girls had never danced together, due to being in different levels of dance experience, but they came together and worked as a team. They performed a camp routine on the last day and were awarded a Superior trophy and the Spirit Stick Award. These were based on superior precision, technique, showmanship and memory. Some of the girls were also awarded the Rising Star Award, the All American Dancer Award and the Honor Roll Award. It was an amazing experience for all of the girls and they made memories that will last a lifetime!

The dancers chosen as ‘All American Dancer’ have the opportunity to dance at the halftime show of the Capitol Bowl in Florida on New Years Day.
